Everything You Need to Know About Botox

Tired Of Frown Lines?

Perhaps you’ve looked in the mirror recently and noticed unpleasant lines around your eyes and mouth. You swear they weren’t there yesterday. Perhaps you’re starting to hate how you look in pictures. Maybe people have even told you that you’re angry or upset when you’re actually not. This may be because of the lines along your eyes and between your eyebrows that could be giving the wrong impression. If any of these apply to you, then you may want to consider having Botox at Mansfield applied.

You may be a candidate for Botox if:

  • You have a deep furrow between your eyebrows
  • You have expression lines, or crow’s feet around your eyes
  • The lines across your forehead make you seem older than you are
  • You have extremely deep frown lines
  • You have a constant scowl or appear overly stern
  • People have begun commenting you look angry or upset when you are not
  • You don’t like the way you look in pictures

What Is Botox Made Of?

You’ve likely heard about Botox but where does it actually come from? Botox comes from botulinum toxin type A which stems from the Clostridium bacteria. You never come into contact with the bacteria, so you don’t have to worry about that. Instead, the toxin is used to arrest certain muscles in your face. This is because certain wrinkles are formed because of the frequent use of the face. Smiling, laughing, frowning, and even other expressions all use facial muscles. These muscles, when used frequently, can form wrinkles on the face. Since it’s essentially impossible to keep from expressing, Botox at Mansfield works to arrest those muscles for a given time. In so doing, you can greatly reduce the number and severity of those wrinkles.

Risk And Side Effects

There is very little pain during a procedure as it involves a very fine needle. If you are concerned about needles, you are able to receive a numbing cream. However, the procedure is so limited that you can actually leave right after and go about your day. Side effects may include some bruising and swelling, but it’s typically rare.

Other negative side effects can be eyelid drooping if the Botox seeps below the eyebrow and hits the muscle that controls the lid, BUT that is very rare. And, it’s probably related to the injection technique, and/or the placement or rate of injection. Eye drops can reverse the Botox effect for about six hours. Otherwise, the patient just has to wait until the nerve regenerates.
